2011 Habitat Build Set to Begin September 10th
This year's Habitat build kicked off on Saturday September 10, and is scheduled to run through the end of November. This will mark the 7th consecutive year that All Saints has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha. For the first five years, All Saints was part of the Multi-Faith coalition, a fifteen member group which consisted of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish faiths. Since 2010, we have been part of the smaller New Beginnings coalition which, presently consists of the following four churches listed alphabetically.
1. All Saints Episcopal Church
2. Countryside Community Church
3. First Christian Church
4. Salem Baptist Church
Over the years, All Saints, in conjunction with other area faith groups has helped to provide suitable housing for Omaha families by helping with the building of brand new homes as well as those in need of some tender loving care. This year, like last, we will be renovating an older home located at 2206 Ogden St. in North Omaha. This year's project is scheduled for completion sometime in late November.

No work was performed on the house this week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me (Doug Kaiser) or give me a call at 402-496-9569 and I will keep you informed as to what Saturdays we will be working and what we will be doing.
This past week, Contractors continued to perform non-volunteer work on the house. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me (Doug Kaiser) or give me a call at 402-496-9569 and I will keep you informed as to what Saturdays we will be working and what we will be doing.
Contractors began installing drywall this past Saturday, November 5. We still don't have a schedule as to when volunteers can begin helping with some of the non-skilled labor tasks such as painting and hanging cabinets and molding trim. This year's build is quite different than in past year's because Habitat is trying to get all the contracted work completed first before the volunteers can move in and do their part. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me (Doug Kaiser) or give me a call at 402-496-9569 and I will keep you informed as to what Saturdays we will be working and what we will be doing.
There was no work done on the house today due to the early football game. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me (Doug Kaiser) or give me a call at 402-496-9569 and I will keep you informed as to what Saturdays we will be working and what we will be doing.
On Saturday morning, October 22, we did some yard cleanup and demolished an old brick outdoor fire pit. There will be no work next Saturday, October 30th. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me (Doug Kaiser) or give me a call at 402-496-9569 and I will keep you informed as to what Saturdays we will be working and what we will be doing.
There was no volunteer work done this past Saturday because the roofers were finishing putting the new roof on. Outside, there is still some yard cleanup and an old brick fireplace still needs to be demolished. Once that is completed we will move indoors. If the contractors remain on schedule, volunteers should be able to complete the yard cleanup and demolition next Saturday, October, 22nd. Once the contractors finish with their work, our coalition should be able to start work beginning with the outside cleanup and demo. Even though I have still not seen a build schedule, I do know that during the upcoming Saturdays in November and December, we will be hanging, cabinets, installing door and molding trim, and painting the inside of the house. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me (Doug Kaiser) or give me a call at 402-496-9569 and I will keep you informed as to what Saturdays we will be working and what we will be doing.
Sub-Contractor work update. Even though the volunteer portion of the work is slow to get going this year, that's not to say that the house is just sitting idle. This past week the Heating and Air were installed, siding and roof installation will take place this coming week and in two weeks, work will begin on bringing all of the electrical wiring and plumbing up to code. This wiring will be a big job. The entire house has to be rewired. On the plumbing side it is not quite as bad but several large pipes need replacing as well as the toilet, tub/shower and faucets.
No work was done on the house last Saturday, October 2nd because the build schedule is not yet complete.
There is no work scheduled on the house for this coming Saturday, September 24th because the build schedule has not yet been completed. Please check back for further updates.
On Saturday morning, September 10, members of All Saints, Country Side Community, and Salem Baptist churches, as well as students from UNO, converged on 2206 Ogden and proceeded to fill a very large dumpster with trash and debris taken from within and around the outside of the house. (Post-cleanup Photos) In addition, the carpets and foam pads were removed as well as all window coverings. The kitchen was completely gutted leaving only four walls to look at. Some fixtures were also removed from the bathroom. There will be no work on Saturday, September 17 as the supervisors and construction manager need time to develop a build schedule. There is still some cleanup/trash removal left to do before the actual rehab begins. The next scheduled work date is Saturday, September 24. If you would like to volunteer to work one or more shifts this fall, please email Doug Kaiser or call him at 402-496-9569 for more information.
On August 30th, Doug Kaiser from All Saints met with Bill Bolte, Site Supervisor and Thadd Mott, Construction Mgr for Habitat - Omaha, and did a walk-through of the house that our coalition (New Beginnings) will be re-habilitating this fall. (Pre-cleanup Photos) All agreed it was to early to develop a build schedule until the house is cleaned out. After that is accomplished, it will be easier to determined what actually needs to be done. Thadd will order a large dumpster to be placed on the property within the next week. Cleanup of the property will officially begin on Saturday, September 10 at 8 a.m.
